When you use our service
Oxford Nightline supports people in distress through its support services. Our service is available by telephone and Instant Messaging (IM).
How we handle your information
Our helplines are designed so that Oxford Nightline volunteers can’t see your contact details. However, some information that could be used to identify you is collected and can be accessed by some Oxford Nightline volunteers, including:
- The time and date of your contact
- The concerns you have discussed with us
- Any personal identifiers disclosed voluntarily during support
Telephone Service
When using our telephone service, please note:
- Our number is hosted through the University of Oxford’s Chorus system
- The Chorus IT team can view incoming call numbers, but this access is strictly controlled
- We do not collect, store, or process caller phone numbers
Instant Messaging Service
For IM communications:
- IP addresses and messages are stored temporarily
- All logs are deleted within 24 hours
- Volunteers cannot access personal data
