Oxford Nightline is a listening, support and information service run for and by students of Oxford and Oxford Brookes universities.
We aim to provide every student in Oxford with the opportunity to talk to someone in confidence. We are here for everyone from 7th January 2024 to 16th March 2024, between 8pm and 8am every night.
Oxford has had an operating Nightline since 1972, when it was set up by a 2nd year undergraduate at St Anne's College. We've run a 7-day, all night service throughout every academic year since, and have trained over 2500 listening volunteers across the 5 decades of our operation.
We don't give callers advice or tell them what to do — we just listen and talk about whatever they want, big or small. We don't make assumptions or judgements, and anything we're told is held in complete confidence. We don't rush or pressure and we won't hang up, however long somebody wants to talk.
We believe that sometimes, it's just good to have the opportunity to talk things through, or to know that there's someone there who cares and is willing to listen.
We also offer a wide range of information ranging from details of mental health services to STI clinics. Whether it’s bus timetables, contact details for the counselling service, or directions to the nearest pub, Nightline can be invaluable to all students in Oxford, old and new.
Are you going home alone after a night out? Or just walking in the dark and feeling a little nervous? Call us and we’ll be more than happy to chat to you until you arrive at your destination.
